Welcome to my blog! You may have been able to tell from the domain that my name is Jaclyn Wilson, so really there is no need for formal introductions! This blog will regularly be maintained by myself to showcase the medley of passions I hold dear: Photography, Video and Music. I hold these three things exceptionally close to my heart as they’ve gotten me through some pretty tough times. Music especially has been the outlet where I first began to explore and tap into my love of photography and video. Through it’s outlet i’ve found the platform that has helped develop my skills these past several years and it will also be a big focus of this blog as i’m heavily involved with several music organizations in varying capacities. You can definitely expect some pretty cool things from myself musically, including the launch of my own podcast hosted by Deep North Radio.
But enough of that, the photo set i’ve chosen to share in my very first blog post is also very dear to my heart. These photo’s were taken at Kariya Park in Mississauga, ON on May 2, 2013. The day was special as it was my Mothers birthday. I showed up at her house that morning expecting to go out on a shoot with her borrowing my Step-dads camera. Before we were to go anywhere I was told to sit down. My mom had several boxes for me to open on her birthday of all days. She had gone on a on shopping spree from Kitchen Stuff Plus as I was on the verge of getting my own place and was in dire need of kitchen appliances etc. She was very adamant that I open all the boxes to ensure that we received everything ordered. Emerging from the corner of the room my step dad hands me this very large box. When he placed it in my lap I had a feeling what it was but I didn’t want to get too ahead of myself. I opened the box, pulled the paper back and saw the Canon logo. Immediately I burst into tears at which point my mom clicked her finger down on the shutter button of her camera as she was armed eagerly awaiting my reaction.
Obviously these were tears of joy and happiness, but it was also much more than that. This moment was the culmination of many months of struggle, worry and longing washing away as i’d finally obtained my own gear. No more trade offs, no more rentals and definitely no more borrows. It was a special moment indeed. One I shall never forget. It was also one of those times in your life where your parents validate all those “yes honey I believe in you” tropes that we all know, but long to see actually materialize into a thoughtful and incredibly generous act. And of all days, it was my Mom’s birthday, sorry guys she’s ALL mine!
So on this inaugural post i’d like to give a special shout to my Mom and Step-dad by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You guys believed and had confidence in me before I did in myself and that means a lot. Even further than that you’ve literally equipped me with the tools to pursue my passions and goals and for that i’m truly grateful <3
These photo’s were the first shots I took with my very own camera and will always remind me of that very special day.
